THE SASSARI CONSERVATOIRE
At The Sassari Conservatoire – Conservatorio di Musica di Sassari we welcome applications from international students and so we are delighted that you are interested in studying at our school. We offer courses in singing, theory, musicology, composition and musical instruments.
As a student here you will be studying in a friendly and supportive atmosphere where you are encouraged to reach your aspirations. You will enjoy a very high level of contact time with your teachers, as will you enjoy our many facilities which will support your individual development.
The Conservatoire, which is situated in a historical building in the centre of Sassari, has a library with over 30,000 reference books, meeting points for students and teachers to relax and chat after their lessons and a new concert hall which hosts all kinds of chamber music as well as final exam performances.

TRANSPORT
Getting to Sassari
Wherever you’re coming from, however you decide to travel, getting to Sassari is easier than you might think. Whether you choose to get to Sardinia by air or sea, the city of Sassari is within your reach. Alghero Airport is one of Sardinia’s largest airports, offering direct and connecting flights from Italian and International airlines. Flights to Rome and Milan take just an hour and there are three or four daily flights. Regular services also arrive in Alghero from other major European cities including London, Dublin, Madrid, Barcelona & Frankfurt. Alghero Airport is 35 km from Sassari.
A frequent bus service operates between Alghero Airport and Sassari. Journey time is about 35 minutes. Taxis are also widely available at the airport.
Porto Torres Ferry Port, located on the north west of Sardinia, is just 20 km from Sassari. Ferries arrive in Porto Torres from Genoa, Civitavecchia (Rome) & Barcelona. During the summer ferries also arrive from Marseilles and Corsica. Sassari is just a 20 minute bus or taxi ride from Porto Torres Ferry Port. Buses and taxis both leave from the ferry port.
Getting around Sassari
Once you arrive in Sassari, you’ll find that getting around is very simple. Sassari is a compact town, which makes it easy to get around on foot. All the main attractions and facilities are within walking distance, however, if you don’t feel like walking then don’t worry Sassari has a network of local bus services allowing frequent and cost effective travel throughout the town. If you feel like travelling further afield train and bus services connect Sassari to the rest of Sardinia.
CONCERT VENUES
There are a number of concert venues of various dimensions in Sassari. During the many national & regional festivals outdoor concerts, music and dance events occur in the town’s squares.
STUDENT LIFE
Sassari offers all the facilities of a large modern city yet at the same time it preserves the traditional and friendly atmosphere of a small town. The University of Sassari, the oldest university in Sardinia, attracts thousands of students from all over the island making Sassari a very student friendly place. Whatever your interests and budget you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied in Sassari.
Shopping
Sassari has a lot to offer those of you who like to shop. The town centre is full of wonderful shops. You will find all the major Italian high street outlets, chic boutiques, department stores, jewellery shops as well as street markets selling everything from clothes to the famous Sardinian pecorino cheese.
Culture
The town has cinemas, a theatre, a museum and it often hosts exhibitions. Concerts are also a frequent event in the towns’ squares.
Nightlife
Sassari is full of bars that are open until late every night of the week. The town also has some nightclubs, open until the very early hours of the morning. During the weekends in summer the Sassaresi flock to seaside towns of Alghero and Porto Torres to join the tourists in the many bars and clubs by the sea.
Sport
Sassari has a large number of gyms offering a wide range of sporting activities. The town also has tennis courts, swimming pools, football pitches, basketball courts, athletics tracks, horse riding and dance schools. The town’s basketball team, Dinamo, are currently in the Premier League and when they play a home game the atmosphere in the stadium is electric.
Festivals
Cavalcata Sarda, this festival takes place the second last Sunday in May and it is Sardinia’s most important music and folkloristic festival. Groups representing villages and towns from all over Sardinia show their best traditional costumes, jewellery, horsemen and music in the wonderful and colourful parade that passes through the city centre.
Sassari celebrates the Candelieri – the sacred day of the Candle Holders on the 14th August. A procession takes place where nine huge brightly decorated wooden candles are carried through the old town to the church of the Holy Mary of Bethlehem. Crowds gather and sing together as the candles pass through the town. The Sassaresi love this festival and it is a must if you are in town as the atmosphere is truly magical.
Eating out
Sardinian people love eating good food and drinking good wine hence the huge number of eateries in the town. From Traditional Sardinian trattorias to chic Japanese restaurants – Sassari has them all.
